Stakeholders Workshop on the Development of a Data Privacy Toolkit for Research Involving Human Participants in the Philippines

May 16, 2019 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

The Workshop is part of a series of workshops across the country to solicit inputs on the regulatory challenges of the Data Privacy Act to research involving human participants. The information gathered from the Workshops will be used to develop a context-sensitive Privacy Toolkit for Research that offers practical suggestions in dealing with privacy risks, without compromising the quality of research in the country.

Driven by inputs from the research community itself, the Privacy Toolkit for Research is going to be built on the current Privacy Toolkit developed by the National Privacy Commission, with special attention to the scientific research enterprise. Emphasis is also given to the need of research ethics committees, researchers, and research institutions to implement privacy management, the need to incorporate data privacy measures into research protocols and research reviews, and the need to continually assess and treat privacy risks in the context of research.

This initiative is funded by a grant from the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD), through the Social Sciences and Philosophy Research Foundation, Inc. (SSPRF). The Workshop for the Visayas is going to be co-hosted by Silliman University.
